Auto- Truck Collision Sets Gasoline Fire LUFKIN, Dec. 7 autotruck collision Wednesday set afire 4,000 gallons of gasoline and seriously injured the Negro chauffer of the car.
The collision occurred just west of Zavalla. The flames leaped up high across U. S. Highway 69. Highway patrolmen prevented ignition of thick forest on either side of the road.
The chauffer was not identified. His car was demolished. An explosion prevented by a quick-thinking constable who fired several shots into the tank, freezing the flow of blazing gasoline. Burns said that during World War II 1,070,000 members of the armed forces were killed or wounded, but that during the same period 3,300,000 persons lost their lives in accidents on "the home front." The patrolmen gave five primary causes of accidents: uncontrolled speed, driving while under the influence intoxicating liquors, improper passing, following other cars too closely, and tunnel vision. Burns said that the economic loss made in the state last year was $81,000,000 due to auto accidents on the state's 33,000 miles of federally, and state marked roads the 2,500,000 autos registered in the state.

(U.P)-Little Patricia Owen, brought home from California with an incurable disease for her last Christmas, died Wednesday. It had been her wish that she spend Christmas with her cousins here and her parents, told that her case was almost hopeless, had consented. It was only Tuesday, too, that doctors at the hospital gave Patricia a pre-Christmas present by announcing that her case was not "hopeless" and that they I lived something could be done for her. She was suffering from a rocystic disease of the pancreas, which caused her lungs to fill with a heavy liquid. She could exist only by breathing oxygen most of the time. Her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Robert Owen, took her to Sunnyvale, two years ago in the hope that the mild climate would relieve the wracking cough which was an early symptom of her disease. Patricia grew steadily worse until, near the end, she was breathing oxygen constantly except for brief periods, when she hastily swallowed The train was equipped with but oxygen witnesses for the said long Patricia trip here, tired noticeably on the journey. She was pale and wan when taken from the train Tuesday, Appeals Court Rules On Auto Transfers AUSTIN, Dec. 7 Third Civil Appeals held Courtesof, that used car dealers must file registration receipts and certificates of title within 10 days after buying a motor vehicle for resale.
This will mean more bookkeeping for used car dealers whose general practice in the past has been merely to transfer the certificates of registration and title from the past owner to the new owner. The case before the court was styled Harris County Tax Assessor-collector and others versus John C. Reed and others. Reed and other Harris County used car dealers had claimed trial court they were exempt from fling registration receipts and certificates of title. The trial court upheld their contention, but was reversed by Wednesday's opinion.
