Are you as encouraged as I am about this?

USA numbers haven't leveled off. There was a testing dip after the huge cold snap, then a recovery in testing numbers and reporting that makes it look like a level off. The seven-day positive rates are at their lowest ever. Hospitalization numbers continue to plunge. There are 20-30x as many vaccines administered daily than new cases reported. Meanwhile the combination of high volumes of testing and the manner in which most states use the PCR test, there will continue to be positives from people exposed upwards of 3 months ago.

Alaska 2021 - Maybe NOT a total loss? (topic edit as of 2021-05-21)

Of course cruises getting approval from CDC to sail again is top priority, but that isn't to say CDC approval and lifting PVSA are mutually exclusive efforts.
I don't see any problem with cruise lines working both ends of the problem. They both need addressing, but they don't need to be fixed linearly.
The cruise lines, yes. But politicians seeking workarounds to the Canadian cruise ban while the American cruise ban still lingers seems counter productive.

There's no way May happens if they're going to continue to require test cruises.

Having anAlaskan Congresswomanadvocating for "economic recovery" from the COVID pandemic in her state is entirely appropriate. The bill, if it makes it outof committee, has the possibility of impacting the current no sail order positively. It could revive interest in H.R.871. That's because I can't imagine the port of Seattle along with Alaskan ports being opened should this bill pass without howls of protest from congressional reps of Florida, Texas, NY, NJ and CA advocating to allow opening of theirstate's cruise ports.
No doubt, but the odds of it getting out of committee are slim to none anyway. Plus it all may be moot anyway for the Alaskan cruise season if the CDC continues its ban through the fall

Probably unpopular opinion: Odyssey of the Seas is not an attractive ship
in Royal Caribbean Discussion

It definitely is a shift towards the "modern" cruise ship, but certainly the majority of people really don't care what the ship looks like from afar, only what cool stuff is available onboard.
Only those with a passion for the ships themselves (like, people who post here) are even able to notice (and articulate) the differences.

I still can't believe politicians are more concerned about the Canadian cruise ban than the American one.

Help with Room Selection

Yes, you just have to call in to adjust the room for people under 21. It's not usually a problem, but right now with hold times and things being as they are I prefer to do it the other way. All depends on what the traveler wants though, whichever is better for you, not me as an agent.
I've called a couple times since my March cruise was canceled. I was surprised how quickly I got through both times.

And that process could take up to a year. With it already having EUA, there's no rush to give it full approval

I'm optimistic that conditions are now right to get the test cruises started. I'm not optimistic the CDC agrees.

How would a vaccine AND mask mandate affect your decision to cruise?

if vaccine required, fully vaccinated ship,I wouldnot expect to see mandatory mask use. This assumes all adults and crew vaccinated.
IMO, only use for masks onboard under those conditions, would be if kids are not vaccinated. The kids shouldbe required to wear masks to prevent themselves from being exposed byanother unvaccinated youth .
Spread by kids is extremely minimal. The flu is a much more of a threat to kids than covid.

My mom was terrified to fly so she just hit the Bar before her flight and was fine and drunk. I've heard of sedatives that make everything ok.
"Physicians can prescribe medications as needed for flight anxiety. The most common class includesbenzodiazepineslikeXanaxandAtivan, which are relatively fast-acting to relieve anxiety and stay in the body for several hours, which is the duration for most cross-country flights.
My wife has gotten prescribed meds for long flights before.

An interesting question, but probably moot as the two vaccines being used in the US will probably have all of the data they need to file for full approval by April and May.
It won't be until at least 2022 for full approval. That's something they won't speed up, which is why they have the EUA path.

Cruising from Galveston Texas ???

Think of Galveston like Port Canaveral. You'll have a drive to actually get to the port from the airport. There are plenty of shuttles.
