MORE THAN 13,000 PEOPLE WITHOUT POWER. ALL RIGHT. WE WANT TO GO NOW TO PAPILLION ONCE AGAIN, HIT HARD BY HIGH WINDS. TOUGH SEASON. KETV NEWSWATCH SEVEN’S BILL SCHAMMERT IS SURVEYING THE DAMAGE THERE. BILL. ROB. JULIE. THIS IS THE SIGHT YOU’RE SEEING IN PAPILLION IN SOUTH OMAHA. REALLY? ALL ACROSS THE METRO. EXTENSIVE TREE DAMAGE FROM THOSE WINDS. THAT STRONG STORM THAT BLEW THROUGH EARLIER. WE’RE OFF OF 60TH AND CORNHUSKER IN THE EAGLE RIDGE AND AND EAGLE HILLS NEIGHBORHOOD AREA. THE GOOD THING HERE, POWER IS ON. ANOTHER GOOD THING. WITHIN MINUTES OF THIS STORM HITTING THE POWER OF NEIGHBORS, HELPING NEIGHBORS WAS ALREADY SHINING THROUGH. I NORMALLY DON’T PARK MY CAR IN THE DRIVE OR IN THE OR IN THE GARAGE, BUT I DECIDED IT’S LIKE, HEY, LET’S LET’S GET IT IN THE GARAGE. HAD TO MOVE A FEW THINGS AROUND. GOT IT IN THERE. TEN MINUTES LATER I HEARD THIS KIND OF LOUD SNAPPING NOISE CAME UPSTAIRS FROM THE BAsem*nT AND LOOKED OUTSIDE AND THERE WAS A TREE IN OUR YARD WHILE NEIGHBORS WERE ALREADY HERE. AND MORE JUST KIND OF CONGREGATED AND STARTED PITCHING AND HELPING OUT. PAPILLION IS A GREAT PLACE TO LIVE. IF YOU STEPPED OUTSIDE, YOU HEARD A LOT OF CHAINSAWS OUT THERE TONIGHT. CARL EISEN SAYS HE JUST MOVED IN SIX MONTHS AGO AND REALLY DIDN’T KNOW MANY PEOPLE, BUT STRANGERS, NEIGHBORS DIDN’T WASTE ANY TIME GETTING THIS MASSIVE TREE OUT OF HIS DRIVEWAY AND CUT DOWN A FEW MILES SOUTH, NEAR 42ND AND HARRISON, A SIMILAR SITE. THIS OLDER NEIGHBORHOOD SAW DAMAGE FOR AT LEAST THE THIRD TIME THIS YEAR FROM AWNINGS AND SIDING DAMAGE TO SHEDS AND TRAMPOLINES THAT I’M TOLD WERE BLOWN 60 TO 80FT AWAY. THAT TRUCK GOT BURIED. ONE OF THE TREES FELL ON IT OVER THERE. UM, YEAH, BACKYARD’S A MESS. EVERYTHING’S JUST. MY FENCE IS DOWN. I’M 45 YEARS OLD. I’VE LIVED HERE. MY WHOLE LIFE AND I’VE NEVER SEEN NOTHING LIKE IT. I THINK THAT, UH, I KNEW IT WAS GOING TO BE BAD TODAY BECAUSE OF THE THE HEAT, AND, UH. BUT YOU NEVER JUST QUITE BRACE YOURSELF FOR, LIKE, THE WIND BROOD OF IT. I GUESS I’VE HEARD MULTIPLE PEOPLE TELL ME THIS EVENING THAT THEY’RE NOT TOO CONCERNED ABOUT ROOF DAMAGE, EVEN IF THEY MIGHT HAVE SOME, BECAUSE THEIR ROOFS ARE ALREADY GETTING REPLACED FROM THAT HAILSTORM LAST MONTH BACK HERE IN PAPILLION. THEY DO HAVE A COUPLE NOTES. IF YOU LIVE IN PAPILLION, TRY NOT TO USE YOUR SPRINKLERS FOR THE NEXT 24 HOURS. THEY HAVE CONCERNS ABOUT WATER PRESSURE ISSUES AND IF YOU DO HAVE TREE DAMAGE, THE PUBLIC WORKS DUMP SITE AT 99TH AND PORTAL ROAD WILL BE OPEN BOTH TOMORROW AND FRIDAY FOR FREE FROM 7 A.M. TO 4:30 P.M.
