Three things I don't like hearing women say and what to say instead, and say that with conviction. What else should I be adding to the list?#PowerOfWords #SayItStraight #TheConfidenceCode

I hear a lot of “I’m just the receptionist”. If I get a positive happy vibe, I reiterate how a happy person on the end of the phone encourages business so you at not “JUST”. If I get I’m here for the pay attitude, my attitude reflects that and I can’t be bothered proceeding. Perhaps Businesses need to instill the importance of the role that is the first page of a long book - rant over!

Can I add one? After you contribute something to a discussion, "does that make sense?" Of course you make sense! Don't diminish your value and quality. Instead, "do you have any questions?" :-)

We all should drop the word 'just' from our language Carmel Murphy! I am proud of saying that I stopped saying those things a long time ago - not only in the outside, but in the inside too!

𝑵𝒆𝒕𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈You may well love it.If you do, all power to you. But, what if you don't?Does turning up to a networking event fill you with dread or anxiety?Do you worry you won’t know what to say, how to approach people or, worse still, not get away from them?Do you avoid attending events despite the fact your business and personal profile could greatly benefit? If this is your reality, I hear you.I spent far too much of my life living in fear and being cringeworthy shy.One day I just got so sick and tired of being scared that I had to take action.I spent two years learning how to talk to people (making every mistake so that you don’t have to) and now affectionately being known as the Networking Queen! If, like me, you’re ready to kick fear to the kerb, build confidence and work a room with ease, I invite you to my upcoming LIVE online masterclass Nailing Networking: Enter with Confidence and Enjoy Being in the Room. This workshop is for you if:·You don’t know how to approach people or it feels awkward·You stumble with starting and/or developing a conversation ·You get stuck with someone and don’t know how to escape·You don’t know how to follow up and develop a relationshipThere are two sessions time available - Wednesday 28th August 7-9pm or Tuesday 3rd September 12-2pm NZTPop it in your diary now!Click the link in the comments for more details.

𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐌𝐄...The face of a single fulltime Mum, breadwinner and business owner. It’s a constant juggle and rollercoaster.I could have photoshopped out the wrinkles and the tiredness, but then the photo wouldn’t be genuine.I’ve been told more times than I care to remember that I look tired, but this is my reality right now.I feel like I’ve aged 20 years since my son was born, but he’s been worth it.I’ve had the motherload of fatigue, a concoction of raising a young child, long Covid, thyroid removal surgery and perimenopause.I’m not going to hide it.This is LIFE.As a confidence coach, I see, and am trusted with the raw, unfiltered moments in people’s lives.Confidence isn’t about perfection; it’s about showing up, being real, persevering and shining in your own way.The question now is, will the weariness subside when he starts school? 🤔 Asking for a friend 😁 #OwnTheWrinkles #AcceptTheTiredness #StillGrateful #ConfidenceWins

𝑴𝒐𝒏𝒅𝒂𝒚 𝑴𝒐𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏Everyone faces challenges in life. Some people get completely overwhelmed (been there). Some use them as motivation to keep taking action.Others refuse to give up.Whatever stage you’re it, know that it will get better. If you need to, keep these words close:Slow and steady wins the race.Pebbles can build a wall. You don’t need to be loud to be heard. You can inspire and impact right where you are. What’s important is to keep moving. You’ll get there in the end.#AlwaysKeepMoving #BabySteps #BuildMomentum

𝒀𝒐𝒖 𝒎𝒂𝒚 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒏𝒐𝒕𝒊𝒄𝒆𝒅 (𝒐𝒓 𝒏𝒐𝒕)….🙃 I’ve been M.I.A. on social media lately, and for good reason.I am in the process of innovating my business, and, it has been a steep learning curve.I am learning to collaborate and cooperate with tech😁Where I’ve had a predominantly customer facing business, I am moving a lot more online (though I still love a good face-to-face catchup). There are several reasons:1.𝐌𝐚𝐱𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐦𝐲 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 – smarter not harder (I am also breadwinner and fulltime single Mum to a 4-year-old)2.𝐅𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐮𝐩 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 – My son starts school soon so I’d like to be available more for him3.𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐞 – I will have more availability to do other things, including catchups.I am building FREEDOM in all aspects (time, finances, resources, energy).I think we can all confidently say we want more of that. This all contributes to building a life I never want to take a holiday from. What excites me most is I’m setting up for years to come.I’ve missed interacting with many of you and I look forward to reconnecting again soon (in the next few days).#NewJourney #SteepLearning #SetUpForLife #RegroupingPhoto and makeup cred to the amazing Jessica Hilliar

𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝑰 𝒘𝒊𝒔𝒉 𝑰 𝒉𝒂𝒅 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒔𝒆𝒅 𝒔𝒐𝒐𝒏𝒆𝒓...Just the other day I was pondering why I don’t do MC work anymore. I remember when I did it, I really enjoyed it. Perhaps I thought it was only a stepping stone to keynote speaking? It got me thinking….If it’s something I love, why wouldn’t I do more of it?When I look at both MC and keynote speaking, there are 5 key things I identified:1.While a keynote speaker is the main attraction/sets the scene for an event, I get such a buzz from introducing and showcasing that person as they enter the stage. 2.As a keen organiser, the MC role is ideal to keeping things running smoothly, to introduce speakers and make announcements. 3.I appreciate transitions for speaking segments so that I’m not always in the spotlight.4.As an introvert, I thrive on short bursts of interaction.5.A keynote speaker has a primary message to get across with little audience participation. As an MC, I want to make people feel comfortable, seen, valued and heard. It is a privilege to share moments with them throughout and have them feel involved in the process. Can you relate to any of the above? So, here’s my request….If you know anyone looking for an MC that with connect, engage and inspire an audience, reach out as I would love to help.—-----------------I teach people the skills they need to thrive at work with The Confidence Code.Follow me for ideas on how to build confidence.#theconfidencecode

𝑨 𝒒𝒖𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑰’𝒗𝒆 𝒃𝒆𝒆𝒏 𝒈𝒆𝒕𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂 𝒍𝒐𝒕 𝒍𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒍𝒚…How did you overcome once being intensely shy?You see 11 years ago, I couldn’t meet someone for a coffee or attend a networking event. My social network was tiny, I hid in back-office jobs.I was living life small. One day I just got so sick and tired of being scared.I had had enough. My adrenal glands were worn out.I was utterly exhausted.Over my life, I’ve tended to just put up with something until one day I make a decision and I then get determined to see it through.I decided I was going to learn how to talk to people.Had no idea how, but I was going to do it.It was also at this time that I discovered the book Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World that Can’t Stop Talking by Susan Cain.It substantially changed the way I saw myself and gave me hope that I could succeed and do well in life. Here I am today, happy, fulfilled, living a life I once dreamed of.When you’ve hit a crossroad in life and had to make a decision, was it a sudden, significant event that made you want to change or, like me, did you just have enough?Would love to hear your story.Makeup and photo credit to the amazing Jessica Hilliar —-----------------I teach people the skills they need to thrive with The Confidence Code.Follow me for ideas on how to build confidence.#theconfidencecode

Proud and privileged to be at the Better book launch last night. You see Christina Wedgwood and I started the writing journey together. In November 2021, we both took on a 30-day writing challenge, getting down ideas on paper consistently for 30 days. There were no boundaries, and it didn’t need to be in order. It was the practice of spending time in the process (sometimes I spent 55 minutes of the allocated 60 minutes wondering what I was going to write) and then a creative moment hit (or it didn’t).The aim was for 1,000 words a day. Some days I wrote more than the allocation and then others less than but ultimately the target was around 30,000 words by the end.I love how Better has come together.Christina, an introvert at heart, is showing others how to spread their ideas and build thought leadership because it’s not always the loud voices that have the answers. Her quiet leadership is paving the way for others to show up, be seen and be counted. Congratulations Christina on this incredible accomplishment.
